Gresham Hotel London - Articles about London
The history of London Soho starts in 1536 when the grazing farmland became a royal park for the Palace of Whitehall in London. After it had been going from one owner to the next owner and their efforts to make it a fashionable location for the rich it became a whole different location in the 1800's.
The respectable families moved and prostitutes, music hall and small theatres took their place. In the 1900's it became a place for foreign nationals who opened cheap restaurants. With this it became a place for intellectuals, writers and artists.
Nowadays London Soho is still an multicultural area with industry, commerce, culture, entertainment and a residential area for both the rich and poor.
It is the place to experience the bohemian, buzzy atmosphere and to find a good restaurant, nightclub or café.
John Nash, friend of Prince Regent, developed the Regent's Park in London as it is known today. He defined a rounded park which was surrounded by palatial terraces, a lake, a canal, 56 villas and a 2nd home, a summer palace, for the prince. Only 8 villas were ever build and the summer palace was never build.
Since 1845 Regent's Park is open for the public. The Park exist of 2 rings, the Outer Circle and the Inner Circle, which contains Queen Mary's Gardens.
